Just got my 2 weeks notice. Seems like the whole powersports side of the dealer ship is shutting down.
oh well. couple of options.
I could try and get a job at the other dealership (they JUSt lost a sales guy and have wanted me on their thing for a while now)
or, I could call up the school and try and double down on my studies. Dad just got another job so we wouldnt be hurting in anyway.
*sigh* bad timing for this. need to go and visit my uncle in hospital too. when it rains it pours right?

not bad. they are comission only (her
e
it was hourly + com) but they seem to treat the employees better.
its also 1/2 the commute. and I have a lot of friends who work there as well.

Time to go to HVAC tech school and learn how to be an HVAC commercial service tech. If you have a decent aptitude and work ethic , you can apply at any Trane company commercial office and make far more than you can at a bike shop. I know techs on the coast that are dong very well. If you can fix a bike, HVAC is right up your alley, then you can buy all the bikes you want.....

me and HVAC have a bad history together.
Im looking to apply to military in a year (will have a degree and will be doing air force) so i MIGHT look into getting school done faster).
oh well. I have until the 23rd until I lose my job, and I might take a few days to myself and just do homework and game. We shall see.

I’m sorry to hear that, getting let go always sucks.
But it sounds like you have some options, which is always good. Better than being cut loose and having nothing.
I saw you mentioned military, from personal experience I’d recommend it... but I always gotta ask... why Air Force ? Or more to the point, why not Navy?

basicly, the canadian air force will train you to fly for them for free if you have a degree in...whatever.
I have a year to finishing my buisness degree. I MIGHT try and call up the school and see if I cant get it done in 1/2 the time.
Not navy because: i dont like water. go figure.

So, I don’t know why but I always forget that you’re Canadian. I’ve got it in my head somehow that you live out in like, Kansas, or Nebraska, or some desolate flyover state in America .
Anyways, not liking water would be a solid reason not to join the Navy. Also, the Canadian Navy... yeah... Go Air Force!

I spent 6 years in the US Navy, though I did it backwards from what you’re thinking
- I did
service first then
got my degree. It wasn’t easy but it was worth all the sacrifice and heartache, and I got to do some cool stuff along the way. Before I could legally drink beer I was operating a nuclear f*$%ing reactor. On a submarine. I still think about that sometimes and go “Holy Shit!” But more importantly it opened up a lot of doors for me career wise, and gave me a ton of other benefits (
free college, free healthcare for life
, access to special low mortgage rates
).
I don’t know much about the other branches, but I worked a little bit with Canadian sailors when I was on active duty, and worked on a Canadian Navy project up in Halifax for 6+ months at my last job. We may be doing some work with them next year at my current gig which I’m pretty excited about. Its just that, as an organization, the Canadian Navy makes the US Navy look like a model of sound decision making and fiscal responsibility. Which is... wow. Not good. Hopefully the Air Force is better. Regardless, you all are great brothers & sisters in arms, and the Canadian military has a proud history of professionalism and courage. Definitely something worth being a part of, if that’s the route you decide to go.

We’ve chatted about your plans before, but I’m not sure I knew then that you wanted to fly. As a newly minted pilot and one who skipped the military back when I had a chance, perhaps I can provide some additional insight. First, make sure you can pass all the medical requirements to become a military pilot before you apply. There’s no shortage of sob stories about folks who went military in hopes of flying only to find they came up short in the requirements. Second, make sure they are willing to GUARANTEE a spot in the flight school if you meet their requirements. I’d bet there’s no recruiter on the planet that can make that commit ment, but given the shortage of Canadian pilots , there’s always a chance.
You may have a hard time getting the school to speed up your curriculum. Upper -level courses usually have prerequisites and taking them out of order means you would be trying to learn material without the foundation. You can get a good idea of what you are facing by pulling up your course catalog and browsing the courses. It make take some time, but it would save you a trip to the counci lor’s office.

Oh wel, our Canadian branches are very good offices. I don’t know about the economy up there but in Wisconsin, places are begging for qualified workers. If the air force and graduating is your plan, find some place technical and have it cover you till graduation. It’s just a job...

If the school will let you double down and finish in half the time, I suggest going that route. Focus on your future, rather than the immediate short term. Powersport sales in Canada can’t possibly pay well in the winter, and that cold is coming soon.
